fossil

“fossil” is a two-meter floor installation in response to ongoing renovations at Zentralwerk in Dresden. Von Bergen experienced an area of floor debris from his first visit in Fall 2017, which mysteriously disappeared by his second visit in Spring 2018. Based on one iPhone photo in combination with a graphite burnishing of the re- maining floor, von Bergen sculpted and modeled the form, recreating the crack, and essentially bringing the forgotten form back to life. The largest installation in the show, it emerges from the ground in the same scale and material as the original.
