Berlin Art Link has invited von Bergen to contribute a Visual Essay in response to this month’s theme of “Fake”. Berlin Art Link editorial intro:
“Von Bergen is primarily known for illusionistic wall pieces, which undermine the usual properties of a space—walls become stretchy, ghostly and morph into other materials. What is not so obvious, however, is that many of his materials are illusions as well: what looks like metal might actually be resin, rust might be rust or carefully applied paint”
Many of the works highlighted include sculptures such as The Chronic series and Sentimental and Non-Sentimental Monuments to Failure series, as well as installation details from Anti-Precious Moment, I Don’t Believe in ‘Good and Evil’ (But I Keep Them Both Around), Fossil, and Untitled (Crack).
