“The eye does not see things but images of things that mean other things.”
Italo Calvino, Le città invisibili, Turin: Giulio Einaudi Editore 1972 / Die unsichtbare Städte, Frankfurt am Main 2013, p. 21. English edition: Italo Calvino, Invisible Cities, Orlando: Harcourt Inc., 1974, p. 15.

“Urban planning and architecture have always been lasting testimonies to the social and political constitution of a society. But what happens when architecture has been decontextualized and fragmented? When architectural elements are reinterpreted as symbols of meaning taken away from a building’s function or purpose, used anew? Noa Heyne and John von Bergen devote themselves to this subject in their projects, as they pick up fragments of architecture and objects from everyday life, suspending their strict categories of interpretation. Both of their artistic approaches offer a call for rhapsody, towards disobedience, and a new way of thinking about urban, architectural space.”
